What is Jiu Jitsu, what style do you focus on??
Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art focused around the concept that with leverage and understanding of human physiology applied in combination with technique, a smaller and less physically talented person can control and subdue a much larger opponent. We practice the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which incorporates techniques from Judo, Sambo, and Wrestling.

What age can kids begin learning Jiu-Jitsu?
Generally around the age of 4 kids become receptive to the physical nature of the sport and have enough focus to begin learning basic movements while developing general agility, strength, learning aptitude, all while having fun.
Are parents allowed to watch?
Parents are allowed to watch but are urged to not coach their children from the benches. We encourage parents to themselves becomes students, learn the art, and eventually assist in coaching if they are interested in helping with class.
Will my child become a bully?
No, it is far more likely your child will not be bullied nor condone this sort of behavior with anyone they know. The sport breeds a notion of mutual respect and welfare, and ultimately deeper understanding of mercy and humility. Trusting your training partners and following the golden rule is essential with no other behavior ever allowed.
Do I need to be in shape or athletic?
No. Training jiu-jitsu consistently is the most effective way to lose weight. If you are interested, you can consult with coaches about a diet and nutrition plan. For those who fear not being athletic enough, this sport trains muscles to increase physical endurance and coordination over time in a way that is fun for novice and expert practitioners alike. Even those who don’t consider themselves physically talented are able to adopt the techniques over time and control much larger and physically talented novice practitioners.
What do I need to bring for my first week of class?
Show up 15 minutes early to sign a waiver, get a loaner kimono, and meet the coaches.
Bring the following:
1. Athletic gear (shorts/t-shirt or rash guard) to be worn underneath a kimono
2.Mouth guard
3. Water bottle
I used to train at a different gym, do I need to buy a new Kimono?
Absolutely not. We would prefer you purchase a patch from our gym and add it to your kimono should you become a member but having you on the mats is the most important thing to us.
What will my first class look like?
Show up 15 minutes, sign a waiver, put your gi on. Stand near the side of the mat before class begins, introduce yourself to members nearby they are friendly and will help with any questions you have. Have a good workout. Let us know if you liked anything or know any ways we can improve.
Can I just show up or do I need to sign up online first?
You can signup online ahead of time or at the door.
